Ammonia gas leak at Sterling's food plant, several workers in critical condition

 More than 2 dozen people are in critical condition due to gas leak at Sterling Food Plant; condition of 4 workers is said to be serious.



As soon as the news of the gas leak was received, the fire department reached the spot and rescue operations were started, many workers were rushed to the hospital as soon as possible and many workers were given medical treatment there. It is being told that this incident happened about 45 miles northwest of Washington D.C. Officials in Loudoun County, Virginia, received information about the gas leak at 8:36 pm local time on Wednesday, fire and rescue teams from several regional agencies confirmed that the leak was ammonia and "many patients were exposed to it," Loudoun County Fire Rescue said in a tweet. After emergency services reached the spot, 26 people were taken to the hospital, while many people were treated on the spot. 

Speaking to the media on this incident, Assistant Chief Travis Preu of Loudoun Fire and Rescue said. "Since we have identified the leak as ammonia, it is likely that they may suffer from respiratory problems by inhaling the gas."
