Friend is one of the most precious relationship in the world
International Friendship Day, celebrated annually, is a special occasion dedicated to recognizing the significance of friendships in our lives. Observed on the first Sunday of August, this day offers an opportunity to express gratitude and appreciation for the friends who enrich our lives with joy, support, and companionship. The concept of a day to celebrate friendship has evolved over the years, transcending cultural and geographical boundaries to become a global phenomenon.
Know when and how it started
The roots of International Friendship Day can be traced back to the early 20th century. The idea was first proposed by Joyce Hall, the founder of Hallmark Cards, in 1930 as a way to promote the exchange of greeting cards. However, it wasn't until 1958 that the idea gained international recognition, thanks to the efforts of Dr. Ramon Artemio Bracho from Paraguay. Dr. Bracho, along with his friends, initiated the first "World Friendship Day" during a dinner party, which eventually led to the establishment of the World Friendship Crusade, an organization that promotes friendship and fellowship among all human beings, regardless of race, color, or religion. In 2011, the United Nations General Assembly officially recognized July 30th as International Day of Friendship. However, many countries, including India, Bangladesh, Malaysia, and the United States, continue to celebrate it on the first Sunday of August. The date may vary, but the essence of the celebration remains the same: to honor the bonds of friendship and the role they play in fostering peace and understanding in the world.
