Labor day 2024 :Know why Labor Day is celebrated
In the United States, Labour Day is celebrated on the first Monday in September. It is a federal holiday that honors the contributions of American workers and the labour movement. Unlike International Workers' Day, which is observed on May 1st in many countries, the U.S. Labour Day marks the unofficial end of summer and is often associated with barbecues, parades, and other community events.
The origins of U.S. Labour Day date back to the late 19th century, during the height of the Industrial Revolution, when labour unions were fighting for better working conditions, fair wages, and reasonable working hours. The first Labour Day parade was held on September 5, 1882, in New York City, organized by the Central Labor Union. In 1894, after a number of violent labor strikes and unrest, Congress made Labour Day a national holiday to promote harmony between workers and employers.
Today, Labour Day in the U.S. is also seen as a day of rest and relaxation for workers and is often considered the last holiday of the summer season.
